![]() Tekton combination wrenches are well made and a value leader with excellent customer support. The only drawback is that Harbor Freight doesn't offer individual wrenches, only sets. They are some well finished wrenches, with nice balance, great chrome, off corner engagement on the boxed end that will serve you well. They're nice wrenches that are sourced from Infar in Taiwan. they are pretty much the same as NAPA's Carlyle version. The anti slip open end is a vee cut throat design with teeth. Icon quality can be hit or miss and a lot of people here don't harbor freight, let alone Harbor Freight pushing a better quality tool line.įor Icon combination wrenches, you can get long pattern sets with or without anti slip open ends. #Tools set icon skinYou need thick skin here to ask questions sometimes because, everyone has their favorite tool brand and that's what they root for. The tools are top tier.ĭon't give up so easily. I hardly ever step foot in HF and wont touch 90% of what they sell but I can still call BS when I see it. If you want to act like a gorilla you'll destroy your sockets no matter what. Darn, no negative spin for Icon there I guess. One of those same guys said he hit the ratcheting wrenches with a hammer too but couldn't get it to dent. You mean the couple of videos with the people who hit the sockets walls with a hammer? Very scientific. Good luck buying a single replacement socket or wrench. You should also assume there is no warranty since it would be the seller eating it as Toptul wont be reimbursing them. The few dealers that still sell them are significantly higher than what Dennis offered them for. Both are also warranty through mail and Capri actually requires you to keep a copy of your receipt on file to be scanned in with any warranty submission. Their reversible ratcheting combos are $200, Icon can be had for $120. Capri, like Carlyle, can be pretty expensive without a coupon or sale as well. The Icon 14pc set is $80 with the coupon.Ĭapri and Tekton are great but neither has as nice of combo offerings which is what the OP asked about. When its on sale the Carlyle 11pc long metric set is $100 (currently not on sale at $134). Their quarterly deals have been terrible. Gearwrench is Chinese so that's a no go for me and probably for a lot more people post Corona.Ĭarlyle is significantly more expensive lately. If i had to pick one i would go with Wright. The price increases over the past few years has been significant, especially with ever improving competition. Snap-on keeps getting more and more expensive, and eventually i think they will price themselves out of the market. Shape of the beam to thickness of the box or open end, to ridgity of the open end, to weight, or length for leverage or maybe space considerations. It can depend on what properties you want in the wrench. I am not sure about Cornwell, but would check them out. the Wright beams are also slightly sharper on the corners of the beams. They are almost identical to Wright except for grooves in the open end and the bend at the angle of the box end, where Tekton has the ring of thr box end attached at an angle. I would also look at SK, Williams usa (not all Williams is Us made). I also have Craftsman and Snap-on wrenches. Tekton has the best value price per strength of combination wrench. I believe from my research that Wright has the strongest combination wrench. I was debating on getting some myself and ended up getting Tekton MM and Sae (combo wrenches). ![]() The Icon do look and feel like decent tools, and the ratcheting wrenches do too. ![]() The postd on here show the metal is soft. In addition if you warranty 3 times the cost of the cheap tool becomes expensive. Suposedly warranty is easy but you really should not have to. Check other posts about the metals being soft. It is sad that so many people have no other answer than tekton. if the people who answered "tekton" have icon wrenches or sockets they sure didn't mention it in their comments or offer up any real world icon info. yes the op asked if there was other options but the main question was how is icon. before i could even respond there was another tekton answer. i would buy them again if i needed some reasonably priced sockets.Įdit. they may not be cheap but they are readily available in a lot of locations. i have not pushed them hard but have not babied them either. the finish is great and they are easy to read and cover all of the sizes with no skips. i have been using them for a few months and they seem to work just fine. ![]() ![]() i have the icon 3/8 sae and metric standard sockets. at least the first response gave some reasons for his answers and some info.Īs usual the tekton fanboys answer to everything is "tekton or tekton ratchets" even though it wasn't even the question. if you have basic understanding of tools that means wrenches or sockets. Doesn't anyone read? the op clearly asks in the first line of his post that he is looking for sae stuff. ![]()
